Wallace Fencing Academy held the first of their 48ers on Saturday (17th Sept). This was an Epee event with several of our fencers attending:
The next 48er will on Saturday 12th November and will be a Foil event .
Cally Uni need the main hall for a Freshers' Fair on Thursday 15th September – so our training will move to The Atholl Arms for some tactical training 🙂
The 2016 Celtic Challenge was held in Dublin over the weekend of 23rd/24th July at DCU hosted by Ireland Fencing. Veteran fencers from various Celtic nations took part in competitions over both days with their individual results being accumulated to decide the overall result for the Dragon Trophy.

Far in the frozen North (even in the Summer), a few brave souls from our club competed in the Aberdeen Open.
Scottish Fencing have recently announced that the next Scottish Open will be held on the weekend of 15th/16th Oct. Previously the Scottish Open was usually held on the first weekend in January.

As is usual, a small select bunch of us traveled down to Carlisle for the Cumberland Open. As usual, the pie was good, the locals friendly and some medals were liberated.

Men's Foil
Even though this year's event was smaller that last year's, there was a great amount of fun at the Glasgow Master at Arms. People even put up with some very strange electrics – we have now decided that the Linlithgow electricity supply was too slow 😉 Next year we will aim to be back in the metropolis that is Glasgow where power is plentiful.
GWEFC will be holding an introduction to fencing course on Thursday 26 May. Give us two hours of your time and we will teach you how to fence. Bring a friend – it's better to learn together.

The Scottish Women's Foil team won Gold at the Veterans' Fencing 4 Nations match last weekend (9th/10th April). The WF team contained several of our club members and regular visitors:
This year's Glasgow Open was another well attended affair, with several club members competing on both days. As usual we also had a full complement of people helping run the cafe.
The timing of the Sabre competitions in the afternoon meant that fencers could compete in both Epee and Sabre – although some scratched from Sabre to concentrate on their Epee results.
